THE ECONOMIST

2018 –

US Audio Correspondent for The Economist's suite of podcasts, covering a broad range of topics, from business and finance for Money Talks to policy for Checks and Balance. Topics have included the union drive at Amazon warehouses on Staten Island and the impact of the expanded Child Tax Credit. Prior to moving to New York, I was a Senior Producer on The Intelligence.


THE PUBLIC’S RADIO

2018

Intern writing newscasts for the state’s NPR local station, then called Rhode Island Public Radio. Also profiled candidates for statewide office and interviewed park rangers for a series on regional wildlife. 


GSAPP CONVERSATIONS

2017 – 2018

Producer managing professional production of Columbia’s architectural school’s weekly discussion podcast, featuring guests such as Ai WeiWei. Roles include recording, editing, mixing and publishing the podcast. Organized promotion for episodes, including social media.

 

 

Education

COLUMBIA JOURNALISM SCHOOL

2017 – 2018

Master of Science with a focus on audio and international news. Awarded Honors for a narrative podcast on how, during WW2, a Japanese-American child left an internment camp and lived with my family in Ohio. Part history, part mystery, work included reporting, producing and scoring, including using archival audio. Also covered the intersection of gender and business, producing audio pieces on the exclusion of women in the cannabis industry, how apps like Grindr are addressing HIV and tomato pickers in Florida are taking on sexual assault.


PEterhouse, cambridge university

2014 – 2017

Bachelor of Arts in History, focusing on contemporary foreign policy. First and Second Year Honors (Exhibition of Academic Merit). 

 

 

Skills

AUDIO EDITING

Experienced with non-linear editing in ProTools, Audition and Hindenburg.

FIELD REPORTING

Have gathered tape in the field in two languages, including reporting on the Gilets Jaunes protests in Paris in December 2018.

LANGUAGES

Comfortable collecting vox pops and editing audio in French.

DEADLINE DRIVEN

Regularly turn around highly produced audio stories, including sourcing music and archival audio, within a morning.

INVESTIGATIVE

Previously worked as a research assistant and have sent over 100 FOIA requests.
